The nationalities, dialects
and culture in Hainan
Nationalities:
In 1990, according to the 4th population census, there are 37
nationalities in Hainan, 7 nationalities more than the last
census. The Han nationality, Li nationality and Miao nationality
are year-round residents, and other 33 nationalities are the
cadres, employees and immigrants, which migrated in Hainan after
liberation, and were scattered far and wide over the province.
The Lis are the original inhabitants of Hainan. The year-round
residents, Li, Miao and Hui people mainly reside in the middle
and southern part of Hainan—the counties of Qiongzhong, Lingshui,
Changjiang, Baoting, Baisha and the cities of Sanya and Tongza.
The Hans mainly inhabit in the northeast, north and coastal
area.
Dialects:
There are so many dialects in Hainan, the most commonly used
are Hainan dialect, Li dialect, Miao dialect etc.
Culture:
Hainan, welcome you with its specific culture. The largest wedding-International
Wedding Festival in Nov, Junpo Festival held in respect of heroes,
the Fucheng Flower Exchange Festival and the Sanyuesan Festival
where young people search for a loved one. Mixed with these
are more traditional Chinese celebrations including the Spring
Festival, the Lantern Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival. |
